Anthony Joshua vs. Eric Molina – Is Molina Joshua’s Next Opponent?
Joshua vs. Molina
British boxing superstar Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) has an opponent. 34-year-old American Eric Molina (25-3, 19 KOs) appears to have finalized a deal to fight the IBF heavyweight champion on December 10th at the Manchester Arena in England.
After talks with former undisputed heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko dissolved (Klitschko suffered an injury), Joshua will end up fighting the veteran Molina for his second title defense. Molina has won seven of his last eight (with a recent knockout loss to WBC champion Deontay Wilder) and is rated by BoxRec as the #13 heavyweight in the world.
Should Joshua win the fight, which he should, Klitschko has stated that he is still interested in fighting the 27-year-old in early 2017. If the two fighters meet, it will be one of the biggest heavyweight fights in years and is sure to produce plenty of interest around the world. For now though, Joshua vs. Molina looks to be happening, with the Brit vying to extend his perfect record in hopes of eventual clashes with the top fighters in the division.
At the time of his posting, there are still reports that Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, is still looking at a possible Klitschko fight, as well as bouts with other opponents, though Molina still looks like Joshua’s most likely next opponent.
